SEPTEMBER WRAP UP & OCTOBER TBR

I've had one of those months where I just can't remember what I've read, but I'll give it a go. I think it all starting with reading Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare. This was a play that is on my University reading list, so I kind of had to read it. I'm going to be totally honest Shakespeare scares me. Not himself, I'm sure he was a nice enough person but the language that he wrote in, obviously I do know that it was a VERY long time ago, so he can't be blamed for that. I just don't quite understand it, like at all...
But nevertheless I made my way through it, even though I had to go back a few times and go on Spark Notes to help me with the basic plot of it, I got through it. That's all that matters right?
I'm not a massive fan of plays anyway, I mean I love watching them, but I've never really had that much experience with reading them. Hopefully that will change when I get more in to my English Literature degree.

The next book I read was one that I have been raving about since the author himself announced it was being released, and that he was even writing it. It is Matt Haig's 'Notes on a Nervous Planet'. I really enjoyed this book. As I've probably said multiple times before Matt Haig and his inspiring writing has a profound effect on many people, including me. A lot of people go through anxiety, depression and other mental illnesses, and we're lucky enough to live in a time when the stigma has slowly become to peel off the phrase 'mentally ill'. Therefore a lot more voices are being heard talking about it. In some cases, someone literally telling you about their problems doesn't work, because everyone is individual and people suffer in different ways. But in his work, he has a sort of delicate voice that reassures you that it is going to be okay, even when you think it isn't. It's like a breath of fresh air, and when you are going through a bit of a rough patch his books are always available to flick through, and you can hopefully find a passage that will brighten up your day, even just for a second.

I think I only read three books last month. It was a bit of a chaotic month, and a lot was going through my head because I was starting University, but the next book that I started reading in September and am currently still reading, is 'The Hunger Games' by Suzanne Collins. I wasn't really in to any of the hype when 'The Hunger Games' came out, and I think the other book that is similar to that is the 'Divergent' series by Veronica Roth. I don't often enjoy dystopian books, so I didn't get interested in reading the books or watching the films. But 'The Hunger Games' is on my University reading list for a module, and it requires me to read the book and watch the film, so here I am reading it. So far, so good. I mean it is a young adult book, and they are quite easy to read. But so far, I'm enjoying it. It's also quite thought provoking with dystopian novels; thinking how could life be like this, if one thing went differently in history. But then you have to remind yourself that it is a work of fiction and made entirely by someones imagination, and that's the great power of reading I suppose that it makes you ask questions, and lets you get lost in the imagination of the author (and your own).

Unfortunately those are my reads for September. I did get round to reading a bit of poetry as well, from 'The Poetry Pharmacy' book, which I found interesting, but probably not that interesting for you because I can't remember the poems themselves. Getting on to my reading list for October; I really want to read Yuval Noah Harari's new book '21 Lessons for the 21st Century'. I picked this book up well over a month ago, and prioritised my University reading list over it. Hopefully I can pick it up and start it this month. Other than that, I'm going to be quite busy with University, and the textbooks that they've handed us to read. Luckily enough I'm doing subjects that require a lot of reading and research. Even though that can be quite frustrating, I'm looking forward to actually delving in to it, because guess what...I'm a massive nerd at heart.

Have a nice weekend!
