AUGUST WRAP UP & SEPTEMBER TBR | 2018
This month is going to be a busy one, as I'm starting University in a few weeks! Madness! I can't believe how fast this year has gone, but I have that nervous/excited feeling in my stomach of change, and a good change at that. Anyway this is partly why my TBR list for September might be slightly irrational, because I just don't know for sure what I'll be reading.
The past few weeks I've starting reading the books on the reading list for the University I'm going to. So I've read 'Northanger Abbey' by Jane Austen. Now, I've only ever tried to read one other Austen novel and that was 'Emma'. I disliked it strongly, that's the kindest words I'm going to say about that because I really couldn't finished it go past one hundred pages. But I actually really liked Northanger Abbey, and the context of the novel, I can definitely see why Austen is cherished as a very successful female writer.
The next book I read was 'The Turn of the Screw' by Henry James. This is a very small book, but nonetheless it was an alright read, but I wasn't blown away with it. Another book was 'The Communist Manifesto' by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. I picked this book up on my birthday weekend and read it in the next week, it's definitely something you would want to pick up if you're interested in politics and theories. I also read 'Atonement' by Ian McEwan. I LOVED THIS BOOK AND AM THEREFORE JUST GOING TO READ ALL OF MCEWAN'S NOVELS.
The last thing I read from August to the month of September was 'The Fire Sermon' by Francesca Haig. This was also on one on the reading list, and it is a fantasy book. I found it really interesting, because I don't really read fantasy novels that often, but it was good change.
Now on to the books I hope to read this month.I'm currently reading 'The Second Sex' by Simone Du Beauvoir and 'On Chesil Beach' by Ian McEwan (told you I'm working my way through them).
Also on my reading list is The Hunger Games, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (I've already read this but I'll probably read it again because I adore Harry Potter. 'The Twelfth Night' by William Shakespeare is also on there, but to be honest I'm slightly intimidated because I read very few plays and even fewer of Shakespeare's work. But oh well. I'll give it a go.
I bought some books last week that I've been wanting for a while. Yuval Noah Harari's new book '21 Lessons for the 21st Century', which I cannot wait to read. Another book is Matt Haig's 'Notes on a Nervous Planet'. I've been waiting for this book what seems like forever and I cannot wait to delve in to it.
So there you go, there's what I hope to read. A very unrealistic reading list, but at least there's something. As you can tell I'm quite sarcastic today, as of everyday so I hope you get my humour.
Happy Reading!
