2018 TBR | JANUARY 2018
As Christmas comes and goes once again, I have gained a lot of books as gifts from other people and to myself (a full on bookworm). I haven't disappointed in finally getting my hands on the books that have been on my Goodreads 'to be read' list all year. I have received some theory books for my upcoming enrolment at University; Beginning Theory by Peter Barry and Dead White Mean and Other Important People by Angus Bancroft and Ralph Fevre. I'm looking forward to getting back in to academia again and critical thinking, which weirdly I miss after six months out of education.
The next are fiction books, I was kindly gifted; The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman (the second in His Dark Material trilogy), and have started it already. I rarely read fantasy novels, but throughout 2017 I definitely adventured back in to that world, and really enjoyed Northern Lights by Philip Pullman.
After watching the amazing film of Me Before You, I knew I had to get round to reading the book, because the book is ALWAYS better. Even though again I rarely pick up a cheesy chick-lit I am intrigued by that type of literature and how it is so successful. Another novel is The Secret History by Donna Tartt; I am also intrigued by the concept of the novel and whilst hearing mixed reviews,(mostly on Goodreads) but mostly positive, I am excited to read and explore the style of an author I am yet to read.
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon fascinated me the moment I first read the blurb. First of all it is set in Scotland, which I am OBSESSED with, and incorporates history and time travel within it. AMAZING!
The last two books are by the same author, Sebastian Faulks. Now, after reading Birdsong earlier in 2017, I adored his writing style and everything about the story, so after researching more about his other books I was gifted One Week in December, and I bought myself Charlotte Gray, I am more often than not drawn specifically to historic fiction so I am ecstatic to read Charlotte Gray.
This is my 2018 TBR so far. I'm hoping to visit the library more (which I can then save money) and re-read other novels I have on my bookshelf.
Happy New Year, and Happy Reading!
