WORDS ARE THE WAY FORWARD | AUGUST 2018
Ever since I was a little girl I've been a bookworm. I don't think a lot of people know that about me, but when I'm having a weird time trying to understand what is happening in my brain then I will divert my attention to the imagination and world of literature. Even going on social media, it's become a place where people just exert their feelings and outlook in the caption or tweet that is available to them, and that can help someone. But especially a novel or poetry gives me a lot of wisdom and helps me to escape my general worries and anxieties for a small part of the day. I'm one of those people that worries about the little things, and overthinks everything, so if something happens that causes me to spiral downwards in to my anxiety and therefore in to my shell. Books and words are knowledge and wisdom, and most authors' advice in writing is to read, read and read. Read absolutely anything. When I say to people that I love books, people probably still think it's boring and something so nerdy to do, but I've always done it, and it's something that gives me joy. Sometimes the world can become so overwhelming you need a break from it, and thank god that books are something that you can escape to.
Books have always been part of my life. I don't know what I would've done if they weren't in my life, because they truly are the biggest escape from whatever is going on in my head or life. Books and words can emphasise with you, however bizarre that sounds. I've found that I connect with books more than people in some ways, and I can't connect with people the same that books can supply me with what I need. You've all got to have something that can help and soothe what you're going through, definitely if you're going through hard times reading is a form of entertainment that can bring happiness, just like television programmes and films. But as Stephen King says 'books are a uniquely portable magic', and that's universally correct. For those of you who look to books and literature, or films and TV programmes for an escape and you're judged and labelled as 'boring' or 'sad' to re-read or re-watch them over and over, please just do what makes you happy. Invest in your happiness, life changes very quickly and you will cherish those moments from books, TV programmes etc that made you think differently..
'A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who doesn't lives only one' - George R. R. Martin.
Happy Reading!
